Confetti Nail Polish: Where's The Party??

Hello My Lovelies!

I was in CVS this past weekend, in search of EcoStyler Olive Oil hair gel (which I finally found) and ran across a new brand of nail polish, Confetti Long Wearing Nail Color:

From what I understand, Confetti Nail Polish been around a few months but I never really took notice. Probably too busy looking for more stuff to put in my hair. No surprise there, right?

Anyways, I decided to get two bottles of this polish in order to try them out and share my opinions with you here on Dirty Pretty Thangs. Most of my readers are ladies and you are ladies that love nail polish. That being true, please feel free to skip this polish. Confetti Nail Polish leaves me party pooped! Such a disappointment!

First up is “My Favorite Martian”:

It’s a shimmery green with very fine micro-glitter infused. The color is very attractive but the polish itself is sub par. The formula is poor. The polish goes on streaky and very thin. It took about 4 coats to get to anywhere near to covering my nail line. Even when I was able to get to close to my desired opacity, it left those irritating “bald spots” on my nails. I was like “Awww, man!”

Second was Crimson Cutie “:

I went on and gave this one a try, despite being thoroughly disappointed by “My Favorite Martian”. This one fared better, but not by much. “Crimson Cutie”  is another shimmery polish, red but no glitter. It had so much potential! The application was still messy and it got goopy in a few spots. It didn’t take 4 coats to completely cover my nail, but in the end the finish wasn’t very smooth at all.

I really wanted this brand to work! I mean, it’s $1.99 at CVS! What a bargain! But alas, this polish falls so short. Confetti, I can’t celebrate you and that makes me sad. It seems as if my favorite $1.99 nail polish is STILL Sinful Colors. If you want a great green, try “San Francisco” by Sinful Colors. It’s my very favorite green nail polish. My favorite red is “Sugar Sugar”, also by Sinful Colors. I used it in my Michael Jackson Memorial Manicure.

At best, Confetti Nail Polish gets a “C” in my lacquer grade book.

Nail Polish Review: Zoe & Zac Naturals from Payless Shoes

Hello My Lovelies!

Last week, I happened to wander into the Payless Shoes store that is located in the same shopping center as the lone Target here in DC. Of course I went into Target for 2 things and came out with 10. I am human after all.

Anyway, what lured me into to Payless when I should have been headed out the door to catch the bus back home was a whole rack full of cosmetics in Payless. COSMETICSin Payless???

I know, Mother Oprah! I was surprised too!

I was intrigued, to say the least.

They had two lines: “Unforgettable Moments” and “Zoe & Zac Naturals”. They both have eyeshadow and lip palettes, lotions and fragrance, in addition to the nail polish. I couldn’t get some of everything, so I decided to get a 3-pack of the Zoe & Zac Naturals nail polish. I wanted to share them here on Dirty Pretty Thangs for those of you who love nail polish as much as I do and miss 52Flavors.com.

The Zoe & Zac Naturals polish is free of “The Big Three”: formaldehyde, toluene and DBP. All the colors were nice and $10 for a 3 pack is a good deal. That’s what we all need, right? Good deals!

(l-r) Bronze Lady, Creamsicle, Flame

The actual polish is awesome in quality. The shimmer was shimmery and the creme was…cremey?? LOL! I guess! I sampled two of the three polishes in the pack I bought: Bronze Lady, a shimmery/metallic brown color and Flame, a bright orange (not neon) creme. I think these are great fall colors.

Bronze Lady went on without a hitch. It was absolutely opaque and beautiful with only two coats of polish. Flame was streaky with the first coat, but after another even coat, it was just fine. Check out my sample pics:

"Bronze Lady"

"Flame"

Of these two, I really like “Flame” the best. I’m a huge fan of bright colors. I think they look awesome against my brown skin. I think “Bronze Lady” is great color and would work for the office as well as leisure time.

I looked on the PaylessShoes.com website for these, but couldn’t find them. I found them in-store and if you’d like to try these polishes, I say look in-store as well. Next time, I’ll get some of the products from the “Unforgettable Moments” line to review. The price on that line was a little less, so I’m wondering if that is indicative of a lower quality or just a branding thing.

So, Dirty Pretty Beauty Mavens, what do you think? What flavorful surprises have you run across lately??

While I Was Gone: I Got Sprinkled With Some Suga!

My next few blog posts will fall under the heading “While I Was Gone”, because some very interesting and noteworthy things went down in my world while I was in the midst of deconstructing my locs. Here’s one of them:

One of my long-time “Sisters In Blogging” Nakia Writes aka SugaHoney aka Ms.White of The Lovely Ladies of The Reservoir Dogs (our old MySpace Blogging Group; there’s Pink, Yellow, Green, Silver, Orange, Red & Black… I was Ms. Brown, of course) celebrated her five-year blogging anniversary. I e-met Suga on MySpace back in 2006. I remember that she gave me one of the greatest compliments on my writing I’ve ever received. She said that a short-short story I had posted reminded her in style to J.California Cooper. Ms. Cooper is my favorite author of all time so that compliment truly brought tears to my eyes. She and I have been following each other throughout these Innanets ever since. Hopefully, one day I’ll end up in her neck of the woods or she’ll end up in mine and we’ll finally meet.

Suga is an avid reader, lover of awesome music, new LocRocker, makeup maven, Date Master and the homeless men of Oakland seem to absolutely adore her for some odd reason. She basically is the shiznit. You should do yourself a favor and subscribe to her blog and follow her on Twitter.

Anyways, Suga held a series of giveaways for her readers to celebrate her “Blogaversary” and I won her “Pretty Nails” Giveaway. I love me some nail polish! Remember 52Flavors.com?? I may not blog over there anymore, but my love of polish hasn’t waned at all. I still polish and design my nails myself a lot. Look what Suga sent to me:

(l-r) "You Lilac It", "Dim Sum Plum" by OPI, "Play Fair" by Nicole for OPI, "Purple Crush" and "Basket Case" by Orly

This package couldn’t have come at a better time. I had not polished my nails since I began the Infamous Comb-Out. That process was HELL on my hands and nails, with all the water, conditioner and the sharp objects. I just decided to forgo my normal polishing routines until I was all done. The day that I was finished, I went and got a professional manicure and took “Basket Case” along in my purse to use. This color is GORGEOUS:

I love the color pink. Whenever I wear pink polish on my nails, I feel extra girly. I feel like I MUST wear a dress and make up. This polish by Orly is a beautiful creme, opaque in only 2 coats. I’ve always like Orly polishes, but I never bought many because I feel like their color selection isn’t varied enough. I’m in love with this pink though. I have the “Purple Crush” on my toes, but I am not a fan of pics of feet, so I’m gonna let you just use your imagination for that! Before a week is out, I’m sure I will have had each of these colors on my nails.

So ladies, what are you rockin’ on your tips these days? What are your fall favorites?
