Hello My Lovelies!
Yes, yes. I know. I’ve been totally M.I.A. on the blogging scene since Dirty Pretty Thangs was cured of The Cholera and reborn in it’s beautifully human present state (thanks to Luvvie and Alise). I’m way too scattered to come up with a plausible excuse for my lack of posts, so let’s just move to more important matters…
On March 25-26, 2011 LiL SoSo Productions will be hosting The Red Tent Symposium For Women. March is Women’s History Month, so holding a gathering focused on the exchange of knowledge to move toward solving many of the issues facing the 21st century woman is more than apropos. I am a member of the dynamic planning committee that is working hard to put this event together and I am also serving as a speaker on one of the panels. Check out the details below:

From www.lilsoso.com:
The Red Tent Symposium for Women is a day and a half exchange centered on the needs of women. Based on the novel The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, the red tent symbolizes a sacred and safe space where women can exchange ideas and insights. This short, information-packed symposium will feature panels that are designed to deal with the pressing and sometimes unpleasant issues faced by many women of the modern age. For the spring session, the theme is”Problem Solving Outside of the Framework”. The presentations will tackle the “framework”; that is, the societal traditions which seek to restrict expressions of our womanhood. This iteration of the Red Tent Symposium will address topics of a personal nature, and will highlight women who have found ways to make things work, by using creative techniques and approaches to common challenges within 21st-century womanhood.
The subject matter will cover topics such as the importance women centered friendships, balancing family, relationships and career, loving and honoring the body and how to know when to seek help and support. The energy surrounding this event is already swirling and lifting women up! Besides being very excited about the knowledge that I will gain from this event, I am honored to be one of the women working to make this an awesome event. The personal and professional growth that I’m gaining from the planning experience alone has proven to be invaluable already.
I am encouraging every woman within 4 hours driving distance of Washington, D.C. to register and attend The Red Tent Symposium. Grab your homegirls, register and road trip! Make an uplifting first weekend of spring of it all! It is a small fee for one of the most incredible information exchanges you will experience. There are registration rates for students, for mothers/aunts/mentors to bring teen girls age 13-17 and for women who would like to register and attend together. Follow this link to www.lilsoso.com and read more details about the planned panel discussions and to register.
The Red Tent Symposium For Women has both a [closed] Facebook group and a Twitter account, in order to get all the women in The Tent, despite our geographical boundaries. Ladies, be sure to follow them both.
Men, while The Red Tent is a sacred place for women only, you can support by passing the word along to the women in your life.
